Billing Codes can be used in varying ways depending on the industry or the user requirements.
They offer another way of classifying work either before or after it has been completed.
When performing work for clients, this might be used to classify that work (eg. part of a service contract, invoice client, insurance claim, and so on) for accounting or even billing purposes.
However, if being utilised for internal purposes, it might be used to define cost centres (eg. capital works, general maintenance, and so on).
Asset and task history can be filtered on the basis of billing codes to give additional data insights.
Assign billing codes to tasks
Billing codes can be assigned to a task at any stage of the task process; before, during or after a task has been completed.
At least one billing code must have been created by an administrator in order for the billing code selection to be enlivened on tasks.
NOTE: Only users with the required permission level can nominate a billing code on a task.
To assign a billing code:
Navigate to Tasks in the left-side menu;
Filter for and locate the task to be assigned a billing code (it often helps to use the advanced filter to isolate just closed tasks, but it's not necessary);
Click on the task to be edited;
Navigate to the More tab;
Select a billing code from the dropdown;
Click Save or Save & Close.
