Sites are any locations where assets exist. That is, the locations where assets are located, operate, or could be utilised or transferred to or from. They could be actual physical locations (eg. "Palo Alto Campus", "224 King St.", or "ABC Solar Farm"), or figurative locations if creative use calls for it.

An asset hierarchy can be created at a site. Therefore, a site generally represents the very top of the hierarchy, because many different assets will fall under it, or be located at it.

You must have at least one site before an asset can be created (or create a site on-the-fly when creating your first asset).

Sites should not be confused with stores, which is where spare parts & consumables are kept as inventory.
