Assets must be located on a Site. If you have yet to create a site, you can create one on the fly when adding an asset (if you are an administrator user).
To create an asset:
Navigate to Equipment > Assets;
For a top-level asset, click New asset;
NOTE: For a sub-asset (child of another asset), expand the asset hierarchy using the + icon to find the parent of the asset you wish to add a child to (per the expanded hierarchy example shown below) and then click the three-dot menu to the right of the parent asset. Then click Add child asset.
Give the asset a name that will distinguish it from other assets. That may require adding additional context (eg. for a vehicle, you might also include the manufacturer, model and registration or license plate, even though that data is also used in other fields);
NOTE: If the name field is left blank, the manufacturer and model fields must be completed, and Maintainly will default to using "Manufacturer + Model" as the asset name throughout the software.
If the Parent is not already selected, click Select and choose the asset's parent in the hierarchy, or select Top level asset if the asset sits at the top of the asset hierarchy.
NOTE: If no site exists as yet, type the site name and then click it to create it.
Add the manufacturer, model and serial number. You can also leave them black and/or come back and complete them later, if the data becomes available;
Nominate the Type of asset (a broad category that similar assets will fit into, eg. building, office, HVAC, towers, cranes, light vehicle, truck, etc.)
If your asset has event (alarm) codes, you must first have imported an events list (via Equipment > Events in the left side menu) to select the appropriate Event List;
NOTE: This will only be used on rare occasions, like when the asset has a SCADA system.
Optionally add the purchase price, current value and replacement cost;
Optionally add the asset start date, end of warranty date and end of life date;
Click Save.
After adding the asset, consider adding metrics and automations to drive preventative maintenance.
