Timing of metric readings

During the process of creating a metric on an asset, you can stipulate when a metric reading should be taken: on a set schedule, or on an ad-hoc basis.

If you elect to define a schedule for entering metric readings, the Next Due will be highlighted (rollover for next due details) on any of the three pages where metric readings can be entered: a task, the asset profile, or the metrics page.

Enter Metric Reading

Regardless of whether you have defined a schedule for entering metric readings or elected to accept readings on an ad-hoc basis, readings can always be entered on an ad-hoc basis. That is, readings can be submitted at any time.

Metrics can be submitted using any one of three different methods:

Enter metric reading on a task

To enter a metric reading on a task:

  1. Navigate to Tasks;

  2. Filter for and then click the title of the relevant task;

  3. Click the Metrics tab;

  4. If the metric has a defined schedule, click the Next due, or;

  5. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the relevant metric;

    1. Click Enter new reading;

  6. In the Value field, enter the metric reading that was taken;

  7. In the Read time field, select the date and time the reading was taken, or leave blank to use the current date and time;

  8. Click Confirm.

Enter metric reading on an asset profile page

To enter a metric reading on an asset profile page:

  1. Navigate to Assets;

  2. Filter for and click the name of the relevant asset;

  3. Click the Metrics tab;

  4. If the metric has a defined schedule, click the Next due, or;

  5. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the relevant metric;

    1. Click Enter new reading;

  6. In the Value field, enter the metric reading that was taken;

  7. In the Read time field, select the date and time the reading was taken, or leave blank to use the current date and time;

  8. Click Confirm.

Enter metric reading on the Metrics page

The Metrics page is a compilation of all metrics, on all assets. Conceivably, this could include any number of different metrics on any number of assets at any number of sites. Filtering therefore may become essential.

Filtering can be done by either typing the metric name in the filter field or by using the available filtering options in the advanced filter.

To enter a metric reading on the Metrics page:

  1. Navigate to Assets > Metrics;

  2. Filter for the relevant metric and/or asset;

  3. If the metric has a defined schedule, click the Next due, or;

  4. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the relevant metric;

    1. Click Enter new reading;

  5. In the Value field, enter the metric reading that was taken;

  6. In the Read time field, select the date and time the reading was taken, or leave blank to use the current date and time;

  7. Click Confirm.

Edit the most recent metric reading

If the most recently entered metric reading was incorrect, it might be necessary to modify that reading, particularly if the asset has one or more automations triggering tasks based on the meter reading.

The most recent meter reading can be edited via all three pages on which meter readings can be entered; a task, the asset profile or the metrics page.

Readings prior to the most recent reading can also be edited, however, if the metric is set to linear (ie. a new reading cannot be less than the previous reading) then the modified reading cannot be more than a more recent reading.

To edit the most recent metric reading:

  1. Navigate to Assets > Metrics;

  2. Filter for the relevant metric and/or asset;

  3. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the relevant metric;

  4. Click Edit latest reading;

  5. In the Value field, enter the correct metric reading;

  6. In the Read time field, select the date and time the reading was taken, or leave blank to use the current date and time;

  7. Click Confirm.

To edit a metric reading prior to the most recent reading:

  1. Navigate to Assets > Metrics;

  2. Filter for the relevant metric and/or asset;

  3. Click the log view icon

  4. Filter as required for the relevant metric;

  5. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the relevant metric reading;

  6. Click Edit reading;

  7. In the Value field, enter the correct metric reading;

  8. In the Read time field, select the date and time the reading was taken, or leave blank to use the current date and time;

  9. Click Confirm.

What's next?

  • Add an automation on an asset using metric rules

  • Add a task template

  • What is a task template?

  • What is an automation?
